Last Monday when I was picking Torch up, I had just pulled out of the parking lot when I got this text from the KB who has become like a friend to us. I circled back to meet him, as he hadn't even seen the horse yet, and when we went to the trailer she was stowed in.. he stepped back and said "oh my you might not even want this horse". I didn't hesitate, I just said put her in my trailer and paid him what he paid for her. $300. I took my drive home slow, hoping both kids stayed up right.. and they weaved with the trailer using each other for balance. The next 72 hours were extremely difficult, as Louise couldn't get up on her own. She wouldn't panic. She would just sit and wait til I got her situated in the sling and up she went. It took four times of lifting her, and since Thursday she's been able to get herself up! I knew this would be the case. This happens frequently with these older big kids that are emaciated. They just need to know someone will be there for them if they need it, and eventually they gain their strength back and their confidence to rise alone
Louise has a vet appointment first thing tomorrow morning to check a couple things out, including the cellulitis in her back leg that I've been cleaning and was full of maggots when she arrived. Last Sunday I got a message from a member of our HHHH family that his lovely wife, Louise, had passed away. She loved HHHH and many of our sister rescues, and had painted the most beautiful Belgian horse adorned in Christmas bells and the moonlight. The painting sits on my mantle. I have no doubt that this Louise was sent to us the next day for a reason Please help us help Louise support.
